Turning points and returning points : Understanding the role of family ties in the process of desistance
The objective of this article is to identify the interpersonal factors that explain narratives of desistance among offenders who have been sentenced to prison. Through narrative interviews, we have studied a purposeful age-graded sample of men convicted of acquisitive crimes. Although the results confirm the leading research of Laub and Sampson (2003) about the importance of social bonds as a c...
متن کاملthe crisis of identity in jhumpa lahiris fiction: interpreter of maladies and the namesake
Desistance and the “feared Self”: toward an Identity Theory of Criminal Desistance
This Article develops both a framework for a theory of desistance from crime and an analytical strategy with which to examine desistance. With respect to the former, an identity theory of the desistance from crime that is more cognitive and individualistic than some and more forward-looking than others is sketched out. This framework contributes to and complements existing theoretical arguments...
متن کاملResidential Change as a Turning Point in the Life Course of Crime: Desistance or Temporary Cessation
Many former prisoners return home to the same residential environment, with the same criminal opportunities and criminal peers, where they resided before incarceration. If the path to desistance from crime largely requires knifing off from past situations and establishing a new set of routine activities, then returning to one’s old environment and routines may drastically limit an ex-prisoner’s...
متن کاملThe Uniqueness Theorem for the Solutions of Dual Equations of Sturm-Liouville Problems with Singular Points and Turning Points
In this paper, linear second-order differential equations of Sturm-Liouville type having a finite number of singularities and turning points in a finite interval are investigated. First, we obtain the dual equations associated with the Sturm-Liouville equation. Then, we prove the uniqueness theorem for the solutions of dual initial value problems.
